What Do We Want?
When I pray for my children, I ask a lot. I go for the big stuff. I pray that they will love the Lord for a lifetime and that they will exhibit that love in their lives. I pray that it will be God’s will that they may experience the joy of marriage, children, and family life. I pray that God will give them a vision for their lives that will lead them down proper paths of training, equipping, and career development. But I have never prayed for them to learn to balance a checkbook or clean a bathroom. Those things seem so mundane and trivial. Yet aren’t these small skills essential, along with hundreds of similar ones? Getting along in adulthood consists of the ability to handle both small and large, routine and unusual life skills.
