Hewlett-Packard loses $190M lawsuit against IRS – New Mexico Business Weekly

According to a Reuters report, Judge Joseph Goeke of United States Tax Court in Washington, D.C. ruled against the technology giant, which filed the lawsuit in 2009.

The tax refunds sought by HP were tied to a Duch tax shelter, which was part of a strategy involving trading derivatives with the aim of generating capital losses and foreign tax credits, which could then be used to try to lower U.S. tax bills, the report said.

Reuters reports that the IRS contended that many foreign tax credit generators are designed to create artificial financial benefits that are not valid for IRS deductions.

Hewlett-Packard operates a technical support and customer service center in Rio Rancho, and is the city’s second-largest private employer.

Here is proof it can.

The first time I visited mapmyrun.com, scrolled down, and the computer restarted I thought hardware problem.

The second time I did this I thought maybe not.

I launched Firefox in safe mode (shift click Firefox shortcut) and tried again, but nothing happened.

I closed Firefox and opened it in normal mode and tried again; sure enough my computer restarted.

This time oddly enough Adobe plugin wanted to update so I let it update.

After that I could not recreate the problem.

Thank goodness.
