Our Glory And Joy Will Be The Result Of His Doing

Our Glory And Joy Will Be The Result Of His Saving

Psalms 21

For the choir director. A Psalm of David.

1 O Lord, in Thy strength the king will be glad,
And in Thy salvation how greatly he will rejoice!
2 Thou hast given him his heart’s desire,
And Thou hast not withheld the request of his lips.
Selah.
3 For Thou dost meet him with the blessings of good things;
Thou dost set a crown of fine gold on his head.
4 He asked life of Thee,
Thou didst give it to him,
Length of days forever and ever.
5 His glory is great through Thy salvation,
Splendor and majesty Thou dost place upon him.
6 For Thou dost make him most blessed forever;
Thou dost make him joyful with gladness in Thy presence.
7 For the king trusts in the Lord,
And through the lovingkindness of the Most High he will not be shaken.
8 Your hand will find out all your enemies;
Your right hand will find out those who hate you.
9 You will make them as a fiery oven in the time of your anger;
The Lord will swallow them up in His wrath,
And fire will devour them.
10 Their offspring Thou wilt destroy from the earth,
And their descendants from among the sons of men.
11 Though they intended evil against Thee,
And devised a plot,
They will not succeed.
12 For Thou wilt make them turn their back;
Thou wilt aim with Thy bowstrings at their faces.
13 Be Thou exalted, O Lord, in Thy strength;
We will sing and praise Thy power.

  This Psalm reminds me that God’s greatest glory is revealed when He saves one out of trouble. Knowledge of this causes the afflicted to trust Him and the perpetrator to have reason to fear.

This fact is affirmed in the New Testament.

Ephesians 2:4-7 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

The appropriate response should be…

Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

1 Peter 5:6-11 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you. 8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. 10 And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. 11 To Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen.
