Have some fun with the training!
When teaching a child a new responsibility, it can actually be fun to have training sessions. You can pretend that you are doing a television documentary such as, “Taking out the garbage through the ages.” It might sound something like this:
DAD: Primitive man threw his trash outside his cave.
MOM: We are much more sophisticated and sanitary.
DAD: This is what we do …
Then he demonstrates properly securing the bag, carrying it to the trash can, then placing a fresh bag in the can.
Teaching a lesson on how to clean the bathroom might sound like this:
DAD: Scrubbing bubbles alone won’t clean the bathroom—they need your help!
MOM: This is how we clean the bathroom. Observe the following … Scrub, scrub, scrub!
